Embroidered Headband from Terra @ Mama Says Sew

Today I am so excited to introduce to you Terra from Mama Says Sew.
Terra has incredible style and loves to sew for herself as well as her 3 cute kids.  She also dabbles in home decor projects and there are some amazing makeovers on her site. Thanks for participating Terra and here is her fantastic tutorial.

Hi everyone! I'm Terra from mama says sew. Today I'm here to show you how to make this embroidered felt headband. It would make a great gift for a new baby. I don't have a baby at home, so it's modeled on an older child, but I think they would look adorable on a baby, especially with a smaller circle. Anyway, she's still my baby.

I've always wanted to try embroidery. I saw this tutorial a while back, and thought these smaller felt circles would be a great way to get started. I made a bunch of them. Some of them are pretty simple, and some got a little more complex.

I just cut out two felt circles. Mine were about 1.5 inches and 2 inches across. For this one, I used a really simple backstitch. I used lighter pinks for my embroidery floss as I got closer to the center to give it an ombre-type effect.

Cut out some elastic for a headband. Glue it to another, small white felt circle. Make sure the right side of the elastic {if there is one} goes on the outside.

Glue the elastic to your larger felt circle.

Then turn it over and glue the embroidered felt circle where you want it on the front.

Slip it on to a piece of cardstock and you're ready to give a great baby gift!

You can also turn it into a bookmark for the new Mom who loves to read, like these beautiful bookmarks.

Quick St. Patrick's Day Hair Clip

This week I made my daughter a quick and easy clover clip to wear on Saturday.

Supplies:
-Clover stickers (I purchased a small bag from a craft store for only $1)
-small piece of green fabric
-hair clip
-hot glue gun
I started by peeling the back off of two stickers and gluing them to green fabric.
Then I trimmed the fabric around the stickers.
I used the edge of a paper plate to hold my clip while I applied a generous amount of hot glue.
The clovers fit perfectly on the clip.
We're ready for St. Patrick's Day!

Spider Web Headband

Tomorrow I'm hosting a Halloween play date for some of my daughter's little friends and their mommies.  In preparing for the party I completely forgot to make sure I had something festive to wear.  This is the first year I didn't spend time putting family costumes together.  My daughter is dressing up as Cinderella and she already had a really pretty Disney Cinderella dress that had only been worn once to Disneyland.  There was no reason for me to make anything other than a blue headband for her costume.

I decided to make myself a quick spiderweb headband to wear to the party tomorrow.  It turned out really cute and I'm sure the kids will think the spider on my head is funny!
I started by using my sewing machine to stitch a web with black thread onto a piece of white felt.  I completely free handed the web while stitching.  I didn't trim any of my thread until the web was completely finished.

Don't worry about mistakes...spider webs certainly aren't perfect!  You can always just cover your mistakes with the spider.
Once the web was done I used hot glue to sandwich ribbon between the web and another piece of white felt.
Be sure to glue around the border of the web because you want the pieces stuck together after you trim off the excess felt.  Be careful not to cut your ribbon when you trim the felt.

Use hot glue to attach your spider to the web.
Now you have a fun headband to wear trick or treating!

Quick and Easy Knotted Scarf Headband

I started my morning with a bad hair day and came up with an incredibly easy way to make a cute headband by simply knotting a scarf.
If I don't want to wear hair accessories I usually end up wearing my hair down.  This is a very safe style for me but also a little boring.
I remembered that I had a bright polka dot scarf that I used as a headband in the past.  Perfect to add some fun to my boring hair.
I remember thinking I looked absolutely adorable the last time I wore this scarf as a headband.  I didn't look as cute wearing it today.
I tried adding a few knots to the scarf for a different look and then I realized the knots created a flower like shape.  I took it all apart and made it again so I could take pictures to share.  I'm sure my knots were slightly different the first time but both attempts turned out looking like a flower.  You might have to play with your knots a little to get them right.

The picture below shows my ten steps to a knotted scarf headband.  EASY!

I have so many scarfs that I plan to use for quick summer headbands!
