Post It Note Frame

I love quick crafts. It seems that is all I have time for these days. I don't know if it is just summer and the kids are all home all day long or my mind goes a wandering but I don't seem to be getting anything done lately unless you count working on my tan from laying out by the pool and swimming every day.

However I did make this quick craft for my MIL who will be serving as a mission president's wife in New Hampshire soon. I know she will have lots of notes to leave around her house and be spending time in the office so this is perfect for her.

All you need is:
-clear plastic frame (Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc)

-scrapbook paper
-embellishments (ribbon, stickers, tags, etc)

Cut your scrapbook paper to the size of your frame. Wrap a ribbon around the edge of the frame. Add your other embellishments. I used a large tag with an initial for her name.

Hot glue works best. Add your post it notes to the front when you are done. I would suggest using some clear roll on glue to attach the post it notes because they don't stay for long.

It is so simple but such a great idea for a quick gift. And doesn't it look pleasant compared to boring post it notes all over your desk?

Kids Craft-Wood Frames

I totally forgot to post this for Mother's Day but it is way too cute to not share with all of you. I was out of town for Mother's Day this year, on a Caribbean cruise with my husband's family. The trip was "adults only" so my lovely sister and mother came into town to watch over my 3 kiddos. I was away from them for 11 days, way too long by the end of the trip I was really missing my babies. And we were apart for Mother's Day. When I did get home I was greeted with many hugs and kisses as well as these adorable picture frames.

The frames are from Michael's in the $1 section. The kids painted the frames themselves and put all the stickers on. My sister helped with the hand prints and taking the pictures of course.  I love them. This is such an easy kids craft but great momentos at how precious our little ones are in our lives.

I think they would be great for Father's Day as well.

Giant Picture Blocks

We are going to be moving into a fully furnished home soon and it is kind of strange to be living in someone else's home and using all their things.  I need some ways to bring my own style and personality to our new home. I have been searching for non-traditional ways to display pictures around the house. Picture blocks are a great way of displaying pictures because it is easy to move them around and place them in different areas of the home like a shelf, mantle, or counter top.

I took a trip to the hardware store in search of some wood. I always like to check out the scrap wood pile because you can find some great pieces for projects like this at discount prices. I ended up buying a total of 4 pieces for around $2. Then I had the lovely workers cut the wood pieces for me into 3 rectangles, and 2 small blocks. By the end of the trip I had 2 large squares, 3 rectangles, and 2 small blocks.

I sanded the wood pieces lightly on all the sides. Then I decided how I wanted to display the pictures of the wood pieces by standing up the wood on the side. (This is important because if you get wood from the scrap pile sometimes the wood will be warped or uneven). Next I painted the wood on all the sides leaving a blank space in the front where I would paste the picture.
While the paint was drying I cut our pictures to the correct size. There are several options in this area. You can cut your picture so it fits exactly the size of the wood or you can cut your picture smaller and put scrapbook paper behind the picture. I trimmed the sides with a rounded paper cutter and used rustic ink on the edges for a burned edge look.

Once the paint dried I used mod podge to glue the pictures to the wood. Paint a layer of mod podge on the wood, then the picture smoothing out all the bubbles, and finish with mod podge over the top of the picture.
Once your pictures are dry you can add embellishments if you want. I added a ribbon to the large picture and one to a smaller picture just for fun. Then using sand paper rough up the edges for a slightly distressed look.

Quick, easy, and cost efficient. That's my kind of craft.

kids craft-foam frames

I was walking through Michael's the other day when I came across these great foam frames for only $1. I thought it would be fun to have the kids decorate their own frames and pick pictures to put in them. Of course I took this opportunity to teach them both how to spell their names (there's always a catch when crafting with mom).

I showed the kids all the supplies I found, princess foam stickers for Elizabeth and pirate stickers for Jackson.

Then I told them that before they could use the fun stickers they had to use the letter stickers to spell their names. Once we had the name letters in order and on the frame I allowed the kids to go crazy and decorate the frames however they liked. Then we picked out pictures to put in the frame and decided to give both the frames to dad to hang in his office. It was cheap, easy, and not messy.
The perfect kids craft.

Kids Craft Week - magnetic jewelry frame and a giveaway!

Welcome to our Kids Crafts Week!  We have so much fun lined up for you including guests, tutorials, product reviews, and our very first linky party!

My daughter has been spending a lot of time playing with my iPhone lately.  She spends hours changing earrings, necklaces, and headbands with a jewelry application on my phone.  Seeing how much she enjoys playing I was inspired to make a magnetic frame with a picture of my daughter and interchangeable jewels.
I started by taking a picture that would work as the base for the frame.
Then I gathered my supplies -  5" x 7" sheet of galvanized metal (found in the roofing aisle of your hardware store for less than $1), adhesive magnet roll, a "bucket of bling", 5" x 7" frame, and the cropped picture of your cute kid.
Remove the glass from your frame and insert the picture.  Then insert the metal directly behind the picture.

Measure and cut four strips of magnet to fit on the outer edges of your frame.
Make sure your partner is picking out pretty gems while you are working on the frame!
Remove the backing and apply the magnetic strips to each side of the frame.
The frame portion of the project is done.  Next you need to make the interchangeable jewelry pieces.  My daughter picked a great assortment of sparkly gems!
Cut pieces of magnet from the roll and stick them onto each piece of bling.
Now you're ready to have some fun!

My favorite part of this frame is the magnetic sides that hold all your jewels.
The bling came from a great line of kids crafts products available at Wal-Mart.  The product line has an awesome website full of fun ideas and tutorials.  The site has some great video tutorials too, definitely a place you should bookmark!

Kids Crafts is sponsoring our week and has offered to give one of our readers the Just My Style 10,000 Beads Kit.  I know I have quite a few ideas where this kit would come in handy!

Wowzer Wednesday - Missing Memory Card...and a Valentines Rosette Frame

Last night I was working on a fun Valentines frame.  I took a lot of pictures as I working on the project.  Then as I went to upload my photos for this post I realized my memory card was not in my camera.  Having no clue how to get the photos from my camera's internal memory to this post (and having no idea where the cord is), I have no tutorial photos to show you.  Sorry!

But that doesn't mean my frame didn't turn out really pretty!
I used a piece of self adhesive felt to make the rosettes.  Eliminating the need for glue while rolling each little rosette was great!  I used the glue gun to attach them to the frame.
I hadn't decided if I wanted a picture or if I should make a print to put in the frame.  I went to my computer and got caught up in all the fun blogs I follow.  Amy from Positively Splendid had the perfect print for my new frame!  When my daughter was really little my husband would sing that song to her in a silly voice to make her laugh.  I instantly smiled when I saw the print and knew it was exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks Amy!

Picture Coasters-A Christmas Gift

Welcome to FUN FIND FRIDAY!
This weeks project was inspired by another great Pinterest find.
Tile Coasters.

They are just tiles and scrapbook paper.

I love this time of the year however sometimes I get a little stressed over what gifts to get everyone. Especially the grandparents and in-laws. Then it hit me, make some picture coasters for them. I printed off pictures of our family and a family trip we took over the summer and put them on the tiles to give to my in-laws. I like the idea of having pictures out where you can see them, rather than tucked away in some photo book.

Want to make some for yourself or a loved one?
Here is what you need:
-tiles from Home Depot 16 cents each (Lowes has some but there is not a variety and they are most expensive)
-pictures printed or cut to 4x4 squares
-mod podge
-spray glue
-felt
Start by making sure your tiles are really clean. Then spray each tile with spray glue. Place the picture on the tile and smooth out any bubbles. Paint over the picture with mod podge (remember it dries clear). Once the tile is dry flip the tile over and spray the back with spray glue. Then place the felt down (this will prevent scratching).
I love the look and how affordable and easy this gift is to make, even my 3 year old son helped me. I know that my family will love them. Personal and creative...the perfect gift.I also tried doing it with black tiles (37 cents each). The only issue is the spray glue on the black. You will need to scrap it off of the boarder.
