I love quick clothing makeovers. I saw these adorable shoes on Pinterest (of course) and instantly thought of these great sandals at Old Navy that would be perfect for this makeover.
All you need is t-strap sandals and some matching ribbon. Create a bow by making 2 bunny ears and tying them together.
Then I covered the center of the bow with a scrap of ribbon. Use some hot glue to attach the scrap of ribbon to the the center of the bow. Use some fray check on the ends of the ribbon to prevent fraying.
Finally use some hot glue to attach the bow to the "T" part of the sandal.
A fresh look for summer.

Glitter Sole Shoes
I have to admit I was very hesitate to get on board with glitter week. Not that I don't love some sparkle. I just have a reputation for being a little messy (spills, klutziness you know...Messy Jessie) especially when crafting. And let's face it, glitter is not conducive to someone with messy issues. So this week I took my project outside. My daughter still got into a bottle of glitter and dumped it all over my floor so I have seen black glitter everywhere this week but that is another issues.
A while back I bought a pair of tan patent leather pumps from a thrift store in AZ. They were Jessica Simpson but there was a little blue mark on the front of the pumps but for $15 I figured why not.
Well I took them home and found out I already had a pair of pumps the exact same color and much better condition as the ones I got from the thrift store. Two pairs of the same shoe?? What to do??
So I decided to do a little remake with the blue marked ones. I love the two toned look right now with the toe tips a different color than the rest of the shoe. So I began by using painters tape to tape off the front toe of the shoes, covering the blue mark.
Then I spray painted the toes red.
Once that was dry I outlined the rest of the sole of the shoe with painters tape. Then I used spray glue to adhere the glitter to the bottom of the shoes. (I know that the glitter will scrap off the bottom of the pad of the foot but that is okay with me). I finished by covering the glitter with mod podge just to keep the glitter in place.
I love the remake. I love when there is a little surprise in my clothing. Something you may not have noticed at first. If I could do it again I would use a finer glitter or maybe even spray glitter, but for time constraints and toting around two little children I bought what I could find. Otherwise, LOVE THEM.

Colored Denim for SNAP
I've been obsessed with adding color to everything in my wardrobe this week. Thursday it was earrings, Saturday it was a belt, and today it's jeans. I have a new shirt I plan to wear at the SNAP conference but was having difficulty finding pants to wear with it. The only option that seemed okay was jeans. But I wasn't thrilled with the combination so I decided to take a risk and dye my jeans. I love the outcome!
My grandma is the queen of scoring awesome garage sale finds. Last year she gave me an entire box full of old Rit dye. I'm not sure how old the dye is and if it expires but I decided to pull it out for this project. I was aiming for fuchsia so I planned to mix red and blue dye.
Instead of stripping the jeans of color before I used the dye I decided to ditch the blue and dye the jeans with only the red. The previous blue tone of the pants mixed with the red dye made the perfect shade! You just might see me at SNAP rocking my new colored denim!
I love the updated look of this outfit!

Clothing Makeover - Old Sweater to New Cardigan
I'm really excited to wear my new cardigan! Isn't it pretty?
It didn't start out so pretty. In fact, it didn't even start out as a cardigan. This was an old sweater that had made it to the bottom of my "you should do something with this" pile. At one point I had cut down the middle and chopped off the neckline. Then it went back to the bottom of the pile with out a second glance...until tonight.
In addition to the sweater, I used an old pair of maternity pants in this project. I don't plan on any more babies but even if it were to happen, I would not be wearing these pants again. The fabric was perfect for the trim on my new cardigan!
I cut the pants into strips of fabric. I cut a couple of 3" strips and a couple of 4" strips.
I used my sewing machine to put a zig zag stitch on the edges to prevent fraying.
Next I sewed two strips directly to the edge of the sweater (the 3" strip on top of the 4" strip).
I finished the neckline by simply rolling the edges and securing with a straight stitch.
A pretty button completed the cardigan.
I promised my daughter I would take her to the zoo tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to debuting my new cardigan!
The downside to sewing at midnight is not wanting to take any pictures of yourself modeling what you've made. Trust me, it's been a long day...

Sewing with Sheets - New Valentines Outfit
I had so much fun making my daughter an outfit for Valentines Day this week. Surprisingly she was very willing to model it for some pictures too.
I didn't purchase anything to make the outfit. I used embellishments, a stained shirt, and two bed sheets!
We recently upgraded my daughter's bed and were left with a pantry full of cute toddler sheets. Last week I came across the sheets and knew I could turn them into something fun.
I picked two sheets to use for the skirt and ruffled heart on the shirt.
The sheets were fitted so I started by cutting off the elastic.
I didn't have a pattern but cut pieces for a very simply (very very simple) skirt. The dotted fabric made perfect little pockets on the front of the skirt.
I sewed the two skirt pieces together, hemmed the bottom, and sewed in elastic.
The pockets were dressed up by a couple of hearts.
The shirt was really easy to make. Instead of using a new shirt or making my own I used my daughter's stained owl shirt. She has outgrown the sleeves but the length of the shirt is still okay. The cotton made it easy to alter the sleeves - just cut them off! No hemming was necessary.
I made a heart template that would fit over the owl and stain. I traced the heart directly onto the shirt and cut it out.
Next I cut strips of fabric from the sheets and changed the tension on my sewing machine to make ruffles. If anyone is interested, my birthday is at the end of the month and I really really want a ruffler foot for my Singer sewing machine!
I added a few embellishments to the shirt when I was finished.
My daughter had so much fun wearing her new skirt and shirt yesterday!

Adding the ruffled heart to the shirt was time consuming, but not difficult. First I cut a heart out of white cotton fabric to serve as a base. Next I pinned the ruffles directly onto the heart, sewed around the heart edges, stitched directly down the center of each ruffle, and then trimmed the edges.
Finally, sew your heart in the shirt. Stitch around the edges of the heart opening on the shirt with the ruffled heart behind it.I added a few embellishments to the shirt when I was finished.

This project cost nothing and I still have plenty of sheets for more sewing fun!
