I usually choose projects that can be completed in one night. So when I thought about making a quilt for my son's room I felt a little nauseous. I wanted to make him something original and by me. Something that he can keep until he is old and know that "my mom made this just for me." But making a quilt is not my favorite sewing project. So I decided to cheat a little. Here is what I came up with:<br />
<br />
I used a down comforter that is super fluffy and soft. I measured each square and cut my quilters cotton 1" smaller than the square. (the down comforter had 8" squares so I cut my cotton 7" into squares).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jmudfQf4I0g/UgCIHECrUhI/AAAAAAAAAb8/jOF2b201GQQ/s1600/IMG_6958.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jmudfQf4I0g/UgCIHECrUhI/AAAAAAAAAb8/jOF2b201GQQ/s320/IMG_6958.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
Next I cut some wonder-under into 6" squares. I ironed the wonder-under pieces to each of the cotton square pieces.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bSlk6LbyyN8/UgCQjakaeaI/AAAAAAAAAds/va84zw6-Czc/s1600/20130720_144451.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bSlk6LbyyN8/UgCQjakaeaI/AAAAAAAAAds/va84zw6-Czc/s320/20130720_144451.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I ironed each cotton square to the down comforter. I started with one row. Then sewed down the row in a straight line starting at one end of the blanket and going over each square in the row until you reach the other end. Continue until all the sides of all the square are sewed down.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A_G1cvusM5s/UgCQjRqd4VI/AAAAAAAAAdw/RjVAw8d26gU/s1600/20130720_144619.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A_G1cvusM5s/UgCQjRqd4VI/AAAAAAAAAdw/RjVAw8d26gU/s400/20130720_144619.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--fkcopv9a8E/UgCQkp-_TjI/AAAAAAAAAeA/28nSCRc66kY/s1600/20130720_151248.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wZ8oEaSfy78/UgCR_9gzTNI/AAAAAAAAAeM/2vpJQz7bnGA/s1600/20130720_151248.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wZ8oEaSfy78/UgCR_9gzTNI/AAAAAAAAAeM/2vpJQz7bnGA/s400/20130720_151248.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--fkcopv9a8E/UgCQkp-_TjI/AAAAAAAAAd8/p86JfQBpPzw/s1600/20130720_151248.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> <br />
Throw your quilt into the washer and dryer to see all the square edges frayed.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tS0-UHgdE7A/UgCISfLF9DI/AAAAAAAAAc0/4iIsyJyK8fo/s1600/IMG_7179.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tS0-UHgdE7A/UgCISfLF9DI/AAAAAAAAAc0/4iIsyJyK8fo/s400/IMG_7179.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
It is fluffy and comfy with a quilt flair.<br />

*If you don't like the frayed edges look you can turn all the edges of your squares under, iron the edges down, and then sew over the top of them so you don't have the frayed look. <br />

I hate when that happens. It is amazing how much I depend on the internet. Without it I feel like I am detached from the world. Sad but true. But it is back and running therefore I spent my evening surfing the internet, gazing through Pinterest, and checking out my favorite blogs. There is so much happening in the blogesphere these days I am flooded with inspiration. If only I had more time. Here are some projects that caught my eye.<br />
<br />
Chocolate Zucchini Bread-kids beware. Tasty and healthful. <br />

I am taking baby steps in this process, the first of which is getting some new head shots taken. I had my friend Erin from <a href="http://www.elhicksphotography.com/">E.L. Hicks Photography</a> take the pictures. Man is she talented. If you are in the Arizona greater Phoenix area I totally recommend her for personal pictures, family pictures, and her specialty maternity/newborn pictures. Talented and friendly, that combination makes me smile every time.<br />

There is something about finding a good deal that makes me want to shout it out from the top of a building and let everyone know where I got the item. Problem is most thrift shopping takes time to sort through the hundreds of racks and try on everything that catches your eye. With three little munchkins running around, hiding under the racks of clothes I don't really get out shopping much.<br />
<br />
I did however make a recent trip to my favorite thrift store and found this adorable top for less than $5. The only problem, it is way too big. But for $5 I figured I could make some minor adjustments.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F5yAmAxmrZY/UfdH7m3VQUI/AAAAAAAAATc/QlASu6hc_k8/s1600/20130725_130535.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F5yAmAxmrZY/UfdH7m3VQUI/AAAAAAAAATc/QlASu6hc_k8/s320/20130725_130535.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
Tailoring flowy shirts is actually fairly simple.<br />
<br />
Step 1: Try on the top and place some pins on both sides measuring where you would like the shirt to fit.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4uyGQzRX10s/UfdH4fYMfUI/AAAAAAAAATU/CbQ2GxPv9Dg/s1600/20130725_130501.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4uyGQzRX10s/UfdH4fYMfUI/AAAAAAAAATU/CbQ2GxPv9Dg/s320/20130725_130501.jpg" width="210" /></a></div>
Step 2: Turn the shirt inside out and pin along the side seams from the hem all the way to the underarm slowly tapering as you go. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7LzxZBmswLc/UfdH_3OIR3I/AAAAAAAAATk/KR5l0b2PMio/s1600/20130725_141205_LLS.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7LzxZBmswLc/UfdH_3OIR3I/AAAAAAAAATk/KR5l0b2PMio/s320/20130725_141205_LLS.jpg" width="202" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E47vbGmR8-8/UfdIFRcHR7I/AAAAAAAAATs/ESsiUaFqC5M/s1600/20130725_141224_LLS.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E47vbGmR8-8/UfdIFRcHR7I/AAAAAAAAATs/ESsiUaFqC5M/s320/20130725_141224_LLS.jpg" width="196" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7g-F9KwZnEI/UfdINdggjEI/AAAAAAAAAT0/efnwZSFU9m4/s1600/20130725_141236_LLS.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7g-F9KwZnEI/UfdINdggjEI/AAAAAAAAAT0/efnwZSFU9m4/s320/20130725_141236_LLS.jpg" width="209" /></a> </div>
Step 3: Begin at the bottom hem and slowing sew along the side where you marked at an angle finishing under the arm. I like to sew right through the underarm to get a nice line, no puckering. Repeat with the other side making sure they as even in spacing as possible.<br />
<br />
Step 4: Turn shirt right side out and viola, you have a trim shirt that fits you perfectly.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QL79wPMAXpk/UfdIaIaJn-I/AAAAAAAAAT8/kdfdRsonL90/s1600/20130725_141550.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QL79wPMAXpk/UfdIaIaJn-I/AAAAAAAAAT8/kdfdRsonL90/s320/20130725_141550.jpg" width="209" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EKXPKFDj_ZU/UfdIcn0EaXI/AAAAAAAAAUE/vsYrZ3z2FGQ/s1600/20130725_141635.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EKXPKFDj_ZU/UfdIcn0EaXI/AAAAAAAAAUE/vsYrZ3z2FGQ/s320/20130725_141635.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>
Easy remake and good practice for beginning sewers.<br />

I don't sew with knits often and therefore haven't really looked much for knits. However I have been recently inspired to try something new. My favorite place to find knits in Arizona is SAS. It is a discount fabric store. There is one located in Phoenix and one in Tempe. This is an amazing store with such great finds on all fabrics from cottons to knits to home decor. The only problem is quantity. You may find yards and yards of a specific textile or just a small amount.<br />
<br />
So I have been looking elsewhere and apparently I am a little late in the know but there is a great website Girl Charlee with AMAZING prices on knits. Here are a few of my favorites this week:<br />
<br />

So many fall ideas for these knits. Tube skirts, soft t-shirts, play dresses, and leggings. I'm definitely fall inspired.<br />

After so long. After a quick family vacation to Seattle and research for a new sewing machine I am finally back and in action, crafting and sewing.<br />
<br />
It has been a busy summer, I don't know where the time goes these days. Not to my favorite hobby, that's for sure.<br />
<br />
Anyways here is my new toy.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GpIO9Vtv8xI/UfBTRy-mCOI/AAAAAAAAASY/b1K_8U-3tY4/s1600/20130723_200141.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GpIO9Vtv8xI/UfBTRy-mCOI/AAAAAAAAASY/b1K_8U-3tY4/s320/20130723_200141.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-prv0Zob-XFo/UfBTRjq4u4I/AAAAAAAAASQ/n2hzcjJm8UE/s1600/20130723_200129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-prv0Zob-XFo/UfBTRjq4u4I/AAAAAAAAASQ/n2hzcjJm8UE/s320/20130723_200129.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GpIO9Vtv8xI/UfBTRy-mCOI/AAAAAAAAASY/b1K_8U-3tY4/s1600/20130723_200141.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am so excited to start using it. The few projects I have worked on have been a dream. It is so smooth and easy to use. If you are in the market for a new, low cost machine I totally suggest this Brother. I actually purchased in from Costco online and got a great deal.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And since I purchased my last machine from Costco I received inspiration while ordering my new machine. Costco takes everything back. So I took my old machine into the store and received a full credit refund (I've had that machine for 3+ years). Amazing, I love Costco.</div>

I have been moving furniture, clothing, and children around for the last week trying to get everything in order the way I like it. Let me tell you, living in someone else's house is not as easy as it sounds. Not only do we have all our own furniture to fit but we also have all of their furniture and decorations. It has been difficult for me to put my personality into a home that is already fully furnished and beautifully decorated (but not exactly my style). We are going to be living here for the next 3 years and I would like it to feel like my house, not just a place I live.<br />
<br />
Anyways, one of my first projects is creating a room for baby Christian.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EYL0XcYnk1A/UdJZBfGzOxI/AAAAAAAABlg/XgsNTcWa6BM/s1600/IMG_6757.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EYL0XcYnk1A/UdJZBfGzOxI/AAAAAAAABlg/XgsNTcWa6BM/s320/IMG_6757.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was snapping some pictures of him the other day and found inspiration in his red and white striped romper. A nautical theme is perfect for a growing boy.<br />
<br />
In search of some decor I found this great tin case at Hobby Lobby for just $15. I think it was on sale because there is some wear and tear to the outside but I personally like that vintage look. I thought it would be fun to jazz it up by adding a large C to the outside.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MlcF6zas_ds/UdJZRYVkGiI/AAAAAAAABl4/SrXsC0BbzF0/s1600/20130701_190956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MlcF6zas_ds/UdJZRYVkGiI/AAAAAAAABl4/SrXsC0BbzF0/s320/20130701_190956.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LKUprTGR4FM/UdJZRHO-6eI/AAAAAAAABl0/VS2WlmBee1k/s1600/20130701_191108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZENaG_hDoKk/UdJZUxF8RBI/AAAAAAAABmU/s4WL9QnjbVs/s320/IMG_6841.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
I bought a cardboard C for $1.99 and some stripped trim. Then I used burlap twine to cover the letter. It took two coats to completely cover all the open areas. After the burlap I wrapped the stripped twine creating a zig zag pattern. I finished the C by using hot glue to secure it to the front of the case.<br />

I love it. It is fun and different. I am working on many more projects to add to the room but this was a great start. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mellysews.com/tag/sundress"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5W7ngoMUy6U/Uc4VQ81NxrI/AAAAAAAAKqw/KElxxDkBz0w/s320/sundressseriesbutton.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
30 days of sundresses and there were SO MANY fantastic ideas this year I can't believe I am included in this amazing group of women. <br />
<br />
I had so many ideas flowing when I first received the invitation. I wasn't sure which way I wanted to go. Remember last year? My<a href="http://acoupleofcraftaddicts.blogspot.com/2012/07/tied-in-bow-maxi-dress.html"> tied in a bow maxi</a> for my expecting days. Was that only last summer? WOW it feels like so long ago.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lol8giMxDIU/T9u8wge2RXI/AAAAAAAAA-s/lKJoak_BHmw/s320/IMG_4249.JPG" width="205" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Keeping with tradition I choose to share another maxi dress this year, but this time it is for my little Lizzy bug. I actually based my dress off of Violette Field Threads <a href="http://violettefieldthreads.com/collections/dress-patterns/products/ginger-top-sewing-pattern">ginger dress pattern</a>. Who doesn't love a pattern remix? I love their patterns and the ginger top/dress is one of my favorites. But of course, I added my own little twist just to make it one of a kind. Elizabeth is in love with long dresses so this was an easy choice.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I actually found the fabric for the dress in my mother-in-laws fabric stash. A good size piece in fact. (Sorry I don't have the exact measurements of the piece.) I started with the skirt portion. My daughter is 38" tall. You will have to adjust to fit your model. My skirt pieces were 36" long and 29" wide. (2 pieces). I laid the pieces out on a flat surface and started the pintuck pleats. 7 inches from the top I created 6 pleats each measuring 2" wide.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aXPFv8kg70Y/Uc4YtzSRtUI/AAAAAAAAKrA/DAya5tWmL30/s1600/IMG_0308.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aXPFv8kg70Y/Uc4YtzSRtUI/AAAAAAAAKrA/DAya5tWmL30/s320/IMG_0308.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
The best way I have found is to measure, pin in place, iron down, flip the flap up, sew along the ironed line, flip the flap back down and press flat. <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUXYnGnAaYA/Uc4YvatKq5I/AAAAAAAAKrY/CjrvGwqfjn4/s1600/IMG_0313.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUXYnGnAaYA/Uc4YvatKq5I/AAAAAAAAKrY/CjrvGwqfjn4/s320/IMG_0313.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Repeat for all 6 pleats on the front and 6 more for the back. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-APmjTRyGpL4/Uc4Yui7IzOI/AAAAAAAAKrM/Z2HKKgE7CiI/s1600/IMG_0312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-APmjTRyGpL4/Uc4Yui7IzOI/AAAAAAAAKrM/Z2HKKgE7CiI/s320/IMG_0312.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I created the top. I followed the instructions except I added a placket to the front with ric rac peaking out the sides. Fold a piece of fabric in half measuring 4 inches wide and the length of your top piece. With RST sew the placket together. Then flip right side out and iron flat with seam on the middle backside. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H0Dd26WeRrk/Uc4ZmW4ktTI/AAAAAAAAKrk/SQ2Nb3WCnFg/s1600/IMG_0316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H0Dd26WeRrk/Uc4ZmW4ktTI/AAAAAAAAKrk/SQ2Nb3WCnFg/s320/IMG_0316.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Place the placket in the center of the top. Adjust your ric rac to the outsides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j5FhWx7xK8Q/Uc4ZmvJDsiI/AAAAAAAAKro/FJnAiAFSU3M/s1600/IMG_0317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="209" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j5FhWx7xK8Q/Uc4ZmvJDsiI/AAAAAAAAKro/FJnAiAFSU3M/s320/IMG_0317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Pin well. Topstitch along the placket making sure to catch the ric rac. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yHKJS4MNMOI/Uc4ZnEiSHII/AAAAAAAAKr0/7a3Cehzg3Zk/s1600/IMG_0318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yHKJS4MNMOI/Uc4ZnEiSHII/AAAAAAAAKr0/7a3Cehzg3Zk/s320/IMG_0318.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Add the buttons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-puEaSucs1tg/Uc4Zn7mW9oI/AAAAAAAAKr8/E7MtRUurUWU/s1600/IMG_0388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-puEaSucs1tg/Uc4Zn7mW9oI/AAAAAAAAKr8/E7MtRUurUWU/s320/IMG_0388.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The placket is stitched to the front of the top before I added the lining piece. I also added ric rac to the collar pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGKjiaZ-fCw/Uc4a1-290CI/AAAAAAAAKsM/n4apNe8x_fg/s1600/IMG_0398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGKjiaZ-fCw/Uc4a1-290CI/AAAAAAAAKsM/n4apNe8x_fg/s320/IMG_0398.JPG" width="216" /></a></div>
<br />
I followed the instructions for the remainder of the dress, just make sure to match up your pleats for the front and back of the skirt so that they are even all around the dress. The only other adjustment I made was adding length to the straps. I made the straps 2x as long for a nice full bow in the back. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C8Rim21dGNY/Uc4baRmlkWI/AAAAAAAAKsU/zcX5d8o6Vtg/s1600/IMG_0394.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C8Rim21dGNY/Uc4baRmlkWI/AAAAAAAAKsU/zcX5d8o6Vtg/s320/IMG_0394.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This dress turned out better than I had hoped for. I love the pleats, it gives the dress a lot more body and flow. And the print and colors are perfect for a season of teals, turquoise, and mint. Of course little Lizzy loves her new LONG DRESS too. I can't stop her from twirling in it.<br />

I haven't been on Pinterest a lot lately. NO TIME! TOO MANY PINS! TRY NOT TO GET OVERWHELMED! These are some of the themes that run through my mind when I look at Pinterest. Anyone else have the same thoughts? <br />
<br />
But like most of you I am sure, I just can't seem to stay away. So with my limited glances here are my favorites to kick off the summer.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I always love a simple dress with a twist. Plus the tangerine print is amazing.<br />

GENIUS. Perfect for boys in summer. Especially since I go through toilet paper twice as fast now that I have two kids potty trained. Why is that? HUM<br />

Beautiful. And this tutorial seams like something I could handle with my limited crochet experience.<br />

<br />
Can we say church inspired? This will be a great gift for Christian for his 1st b-day to play with during those 3 long hours of church before he gets to enter the nursery. Only 9 more months, but who's counting?<br />
<br />

<br />
This skirt is just too beautiful and fun not to pin. Definitely goes into the "I Can Make That" series.<br />
<br />
<br />
That is 5 more projects added to my ever growing list.<br />
<br />
Happy Pinning Everyone<br />

The in-laws are on their way to New Hampshire and we have the house all to our selves again. It was a long process but my home is finally organized and unpacked enough that I feel like I can start crafting again.<br />
<br />
I decided to get started by visiting my old friend, my sewing machine. However after months of not touching it I came to realize that my machine is broken. YUP broken. In fact so broken that repairing it would cost more than what the machine is worth. Therefore I get to buy a new machine! YAY. My gift from my hubby for all the patience I have shown living with his parents over the last 4 months. My new machine hasn't arrived yet so no sewing projects for now but I have big plans once it arrives. <br />
<br />
I was looking back on past posts and was reminded of our first big series. <a href="http://acoupleofcraftaddicts.blogspot.com/2011/06/flip-flop-fun-series-giveaway-winner.html">Flip Flop Week</a>. Just in time for Old Navy's big flip flop sale. All flip flops are $1 this Saturday. It is flash back time, check out these creative ideas and go buy yourself a new pair of flip flops for $1 this Saturday. <br />

It seems that is all I have time for these days. I don't know if it is just summer and the kids are all home all day long or my mind goes a wandering but I don't seem to be getting anything done lately unless you count working on my tan from laying out by the pool and swimming every day.<br />
<br />
However I did make this quick craft for my MIL who will be serving as a mission president's wife in New Hampshire soon. I know she will have lots of notes to leave around her house and be spending time in the office so this is perfect for her.<br />
<br />
All you need is:<br />
-clear plastic frame (Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ib2AM0nYuI/UbAceut66GI/AAAAAAAAKkE/dCnwwMsniZ4/s1600/Untitled-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ib2AM0nYuI/UbAceut66GI/AAAAAAAAKkE/dCnwwMsniZ4/s1600/Untitled-1.jpg" /></a></div>
-scrapbook paper<br />
-embellishments (ribbon, stickers, tags, etc)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GuILAxHX1wQ/UbAcin_zkYI/AAAAAAAAKkU/vpLTS_c3Mfc/s1600/photo%287%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GuILAxHX1wQ/UbAcin_zkYI/AAAAAAAAKkU/vpLTS_c3Mfc/s320/photo%287%29.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Cut your scrapbook paper to the size of your frame. Wrap a ribbon around the edge of the frame. Add your other embellishments. I used a large tag with an initial for her name.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KcVOKkGLp10/UbAciqw5PwI/AAAAAAAAKkQ/UjMTP6AbICY/s1600/photo%286%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KcVOKkGLp10/UbAciqw5PwI/AAAAAAAAKkQ/UjMTP6AbICY/s320/photo%286%29.JPG" width="240" /></a> </div>
Hot glue works best. Add your post it notes to the front when you are done. I would suggest using some clear roll on glue to attach the post it notes because they don't stay for long.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YSyCC5SyBE0/UbAciugVmqI/AAAAAAAAKkM/7HAMfNIBkgY/s1600/photo%285%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YSyCC5SyBE0/UbAciugVmqI/AAAAAAAAKkM/7HAMfNIBkgY/s320/photo%285%29.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GuILAxHX1wQ/UbAcin_zkYI/AAAAAAAAKkU/vpLTS_c3Mfc/s1600/photo%287%29.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> <br />
It is so simple but such a great idea for a quick gift. And doesn't it look <span style="color: #0000ee;">pleasant</span> compared to boring post it notes all over your desk? <br />

I was out of town for Mother's Day this year, on a Caribbean cruise with my husband's family. The trip was "adults only" so my lovely sister and mother came into town to watch over my 3 kiddos. I was away from them for 11 days, way too long by the end of the trip I was really missing my babies. And we were apart for Mother's Day. When I did get home I was greeted with many hugs and kisses as well as these adorable picture frames.<br />
<br />
The frames are from Michael's in the $1 section. The kids painted the frames themselves and put all the stickers on. My sister helped with the hand prints and taking the pictures of course. I love them. This is such an easy kids craft but great momentos at how precious our little ones are in our lives.<br />

Teacher appreciation. As a teacher myself I think teacher appreciation should be every day of the year, however the end of the year seems to be the time to give a gift to show that appreciation. But what to get your favorite teacher?<br />
<br />
I am a firm believer in the student deciding on the gift for the teacher. It makes the gift personal and gives the student a sense of responsibility. With that in mind my son is only 5 years old so finding a gift that he picks and makes himself is a tricky task. We searched the internet for inspiration and came up with a combination of fun and personal ideas.<br />
<br />
We created a vase from a basic glass vase and colored pencils. My son helped me organize the pattern of colors and I used hot glue to attach the pencils to the vase.<br />
<br />
Then we made paper flowers from cardstock and pipe cleaners. I drew the flower shapes and he cut them out. You will need two of each shape (one for the front and one for the back). I asked him what he would like to say to Miss Janelle and wrote down his responses on the flowers (ie: you are wonderful, I love you, thank you, and you are pretty). I made the stems from pipe cleaners by creating an infinity shape and twisting it around the stem portion. Then glue the stem in between the two flower shapes.<br />
<br />
For an added touch he picked out the real flowers himself just to fill the vase.<br />

<br />
I just want to let all of you know that I am still here and posting but I have been very busy with my family and other obligations.<br />
<br />
As most of you probably noticed Heather has left the blog. She decided to take a new direction in her life. I am thankful for all her support and great ideas along the way and am sad to have her leave but wishing her the best in her future.<br />
<br />
On that note I have been trying to decide what direction I want to take the blog myself. I have grown to love this blog over the last 3 years and have no desire to end it. I love everyone I have met in the blogging world and all our followers here at A Couple of Craft Addicts.<br />
<br />
Therefore I feel there will be many changes over the next few months and posts will be sporadic for a while. I am trying to live a balanced life between my family, my job, my church callings, my friends, and everything that comes with it. With this balance comes priorities over wants and sometimes that means spending extra time doing the dishes or reading books with the kiddos when instead of working in my craft room. This blog is very important to me. I not only love to share my ideas but it has also become an outlet for me. A way to d-stress and something that I am very proud to be a part of. I hope you will continue to support me through this transition and look forward to what the future has to hold for A Couple of Craft Addicts. <br />

I planned on making a new piece of clothing every day. It is already day 3 and only one piece has been made. I think I will be lucky to get anything made this week. For some reason baby Christian has gone from low maintance loveable baby boy to "I have to be held all day or I am going to throw a tantrum." Still hoping this is just a phase. I really thought sitting up would open his eyes to a whole new world but it seems to just make him frustrated that he can't be running around like the other kiddos.<br />

<br />
Anyways, that has really cut into my sewing time. Plus I am getting ready to go on a Caribbean cruise next week and having to make some fun cruise clothing and alterations. I am sewing, just not kids clothes.<br />
<br />
I did however find some time to make a fun spring skirt for Liz. It is a basic gathered skirt (tutorial here) but I added 2 inch elastic to give it a more high waisted effect. I also added a weaved ribbon through the bottom. This is simple, all you have to do is create button holes about 1/2" apart and then another pair of holes about 6" apart all around the skirt. It is a fun addition to a basic skirt.<br />

I love the colors: mint, pink, grey, and light blue. It reminds me a little of Easter eggs. There are sunglasses all over the skirt which is a great summer print. Are you working on anything for KCW? Hopefully I will get something else finished by the time the week is through. I saw these adorable shoes on Pinterest (of course) and instantly thought of these great sandals at Old Navy that would be perfect for this makeover.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uv1nCmNrC28/UXYOHQpNCCI/AAAAAAAABfo/x6cXz2a5UEw/s1600/Untitled-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uv1nCmNrC28/UXYOHQpNCCI/AAAAAAAABfo/x6cXz2a5UEw/s320/Untitled-1.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6tk2t1gYXx4/UXYNprGgr1I/AAAAAAAABew/jDVtxAh8lqw/s1600/Untitled-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6tk2t1gYXx4/UXYNprGgr1I/AAAAAAAABew/jDVtxAh8lqw/s320/Untitled-1.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
All you need is t-strap sandals and some matching ribbon. Create a bow by making 2 bunny ears and tying them together.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rjKP4F7O2X0/UXYNtRfZxlI/AAAAAAAABe8/d5u23JjeV-E/s1600/IMG_0320.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="174" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rjKP4F7O2X0/UXYNtRfZxlI/AAAAAAAABe8/d5u23JjeV-E/s320/IMG_0320.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
Then I covered the center of the bow with a scrap of ribbon. Use some hot glue to attach the scrap of ribbon to the the center of the bow. Use some fray check on the ends of the ribbon to prevent fraying.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mGXRzp6N1N8/UXYNtRwOeiI/AAAAAAAABe4/dLq6278fKLU/s1600/IMG_0321.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mGXRzp6N1N8/UXYNtRwOeiI/AAAAAAAABe4/dLq6278fKLU/s320/IMG_0321.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TVRfBNuwfjs/UXYNunoaOEI/AAAAAAAABfI/WOkhNB7uJCg/s1600/IMG_0324.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TVRfBNuwfjs/UXYNunoaOEI/AAAAAAAABfI/WOkhNB7uJCg/s320/IMG_0324.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<br />
Finally use some hot glue to attach the bow to the "T" part of the sandal.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

I am really into prints for summer. Light cotton prints to be exact.
Cotton is the perfect summer fabric and there are so many out there that
I am in love with I can't see my sewing list shrinking anytime soon.
Here are a few of my favorite prints from this week:</div>

Looking back I should have done a whole month tribute to skirts but random skirt posts will have to do. I found this pattern at Walmart for around $3. I love the high waist and the big pockets are really fun too.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img class="mainImage" height="194" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/newlook/6872/6872.jpg" style="height: 407px; width: 419px;" width="200" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This skirt was so easy to sew up. It took me from start to finish in under an hour.It is hard to tell but the print is actually small tulips falling in different directions. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
This is a great summer skirt, easy cotton and comfortable. One of the many skirts I will share over the next few weeks.</div>

That includes how things grow. Children love hands on activities and the idea of watching as something grows from a tiny seed. I saw some small planting kits at Target the other day for only $1. There was cilantro, basil, tomatoes, and strawberries. I allowed the kids to do all the work.<br />
<br />
I let the kids tend the soil, plant the seeds, water their plants, and we have been watching the plants grow. They loved getting their hands dirty and learning about the sun and plant cycle.<br />

It has only been a week and we can already see some sprouts. So exciting. <br />

We didn't throw a party for him this year, just family and presents. But I did make cupcakes for him to take to preschool. He wanted Ninja Turtle cupcakes so I did a little research on how to make the famous turtles look their best. Here is what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_-lQ_gsa8n8/UWYrclLO7kI/AAAAAAAABbg/wf-vmjecktw/s1600/IMG_6272.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_-lQ_gsa8n8/UWYrclLO7kI/AAAAAAAABbg/wf-vmjecktw/s320/IMG_6272.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y7LhdY7559g/UWYrdOZBegI/AAAAAAAABb0/x9dgiKu3NC8/s1600/IMG_6273.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y7LhdY7559g/UWYrdOZBegI/AAAAAAAABb0/x9dgiKu3NC8/s320/IMG_6273.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<br />
I made rainbow cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting. Then I used a rose tip for the masks, a small round tip for the eyes and mouth, and chocolate chips for the eye balls. I love how cartoon like they look, perfect for a 5 year old. He loved them!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="spotlight" src="https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/602226_10151550999215042_2129376023_n.jpg" style="height: 520px; width: 390px;" /></div>
We also put balloons on the front yard (paper balloons on wood sticks). When he walked out in the morning he had a great surprise. <br />
<br />
Here are some other birthday ideas to start your own traditions:<br />
