Fabric Find-Fall Preview 1

Looking for a good deal on knits. I don't sew with knits often and therefore haven't really looked much for knits. However I have been recently inspired to try something new. My favorite place to find knits in Arizona is SAS. It is a discount fabric store. There is one located in Phoenix and one in Tempe. This is an amazing store with such great finds on all fabrics from cottons to knits to home decor. The only problem is quantity. You may find yards and yards of a specific textile or just a small amount.

So I have been looking elsewhere and apparently I am a little late in the know but there is a great website Girl Charlee with AMAZING prices on knits. Here are a few of my favorites this week:

So many fall ideas for these knits. Tube skirts, soft t-shirts, play dresses, and leggings. I'm definitely fall inspired.

Fabric Find: Summer Prints

I am really into prints for summer. Light cotton prints to be exact. Cotton is the perfect summer fabric and there are so many out there that I am in love with I can't see my sewing list shrinking anytime soon. Here are a few of my favorite prints from this week:

Shorts, skirts, sundresses, totes. So many projects so little time.

Fabric Find: Coral

Are you as obsessed with coral as I am? I can't get enough of the color which is great because it is found everywhere these days. Plus you can pair the color with so many options: navy, turquoise, chartreuse, cream. Here are a few of my favorite fabric picks this week in the color coral.

Moda, 2wenty Thr3e, Camera Obscura Parchment
Denyse Schmidt, Shelburne Falls, Multi Floral Maple
Monaluna, Organic, Modern Home, Ziggy

I would love a skirt in any or all of these prints!

Finished-Mockingjay Dress

I am so proud to announce that I finished my dress!!!! Remember from the fabric search giveaway? Seriously so excited about it. I love how it turned out. I fits so perfectly I wore it all day and was comfortable and confident.

My brother-in-law asked if it was my Hunger Games dress and I realized it kinda does look like the mockingjay so I am going with that as the name. When I put it on at first I was worried. I kept thinking of that part in "The Help" when she asks if her dress looks homemade. But my husband, (the loving and supportive husband that he is, and smart did I say that already?) assured me it did not look homemade. And he was right, no body guessed that I had made it. This gave me an extra confidence boost.

For this dress I chose the tab feature but added a back bow just for fun.

Once I started it was so simple I am already planning on another one with a few alterations. I love how it synches at the waist. And it has pockets for all my little knick knacks. Now I am totally inspired to sew more for myself, I went out and bought 5 new patterns (3 dress patterns and 2 tops). There will be a lot more adult sewing this year!

fabric find #15

I have been so inspired lately by all the fantastic prints coming out for spring. Inspired to make more pieces for myself. I am actually excited for once. I found these prints on fabricworm.com and I just couldn't resist buying some of each and getting started on something fabulous for myself.

I'm thinking fun summer dress for this one.

Maybe a shirt dress with buttons down the front with this one.

And a longer circle skirt that hits just below the knee.

What inspires you lately?

Fabric Find #14

It has been decided! I ordered the fabric to make my dress.

I LOVE IT! It is a breezy cotton, very light weight but not see through with gold metallic birds.

Now I just have to get started on actually making the dress.

Here are some other fabrics that I have had my eye on lately:

Adorable for an Easter dress

I want to make a quilt out of this line for my little guy. It is so adorable and has great colors.

fabric find Tuesday #14

This week's fabric find is a challenge to all of you. I am planning on making myself a dress but I just can't decide what fabric to use. I always have this problem when sewing for myself. Since sewing for myself takes a little longer than my usual projects and more fabric than most of my projects I feel like it needs to be something I will totally love.

So my challenge to you is to find the perfect fabric for me to use on this dress:
I have made it before in a cream satin and I love it. The shape is perfect for my body. So I am open to any prints or solids. Here is one that I love:

If it is a print I would like something simple and understated. I love the periwinkle with the pop of red piping for this clutch. (BTW: Anyone know the name of this fabric?)

The winner of this search will get a gift certificate for fabricworm.com. So please post your comment of your choice and good luck!

fabric find Tuesday #13

As part of my goals this year I plan on sewing more for myself. I don't tend to like to sew for myself  because it takes longer, it is much harder (women have curves), and honestly I am not a fan of pattern sizing (a regular size 4 can be as much as a size 10 in patterns, ahhh). But I do think that when you sew for yourself you can make a dress or skirt however you want and the style that flatters your body the best. For example maybe you have large hips and a small bust, a 50's style dress would be perfect with a tight bodice and a full skirt.

I have what I like to call an upside-down triangle shape. I have a large chest and very skinny hips. So finding dresses or skirts that look good on me can be a challenge. I know that I need a defined waist and a supportive bodice. So many times I like to mix and match the patterns to make something that will look great on my figure.

So what does that have to do with fabric? I found this great linen on fabricworm that I plan on making my first piece of the year for myself. It is a golden yellow color with white scallops.

I want to make a pencil skirt. Something along these lines with a high waist and a thick waistband. Maybe pockets too, every mom needs pockets.

Now to find the perfect pattern...any ideas?

Fabric Find Tuesday #12

I found a new line this week and I am in LOVE. Honestly I haven't seen many fabrics that I adore lately, which has been good for my bank account but sad for my collection. (not that I don't have enough fabrics stashed already.) But this new line Simply Color by V&Co is adorable.

From ombre solids and dots to this adorable chevron dotted colors I can't wait to get my hands on these adorable cottons.

So pretty and will make some adorable skirts and dresses for spring.

Fabric Find Tuesday #11

It is October which means the count down to Christmas has started in our house. I like to make a few Christmas presents for my kids every year and this year I am thinking about making them pillow mats and of course some jammies. I like to plan ahead and get those presents made early so I am on the hunt for the perfect fabric for these gifts. While searching I came across Alexander Henry's Once Upon a Time line on fabricworm.com. I love this fabric for my little Lizzy. It is pink and princesses, two of her favorites. I think it would be perfect for either of the above gifts.

This line totally reminds me of my daughter's favorite book: The Very Fairy Princess by Julie Andrews, Emma Walton Hamilton, and Christine Davenier. It is an adorable book.

She will love dreaming snuggly in her princess themed gifts this Christmas.
