fabric find Tuesday #14

This week's fabric find is a challenge to all of you. I am planning on making myself a dress but I just can't decide what fabric to use. I always have this problem when sewing for myself. Since sewing for myself takes a little longer than my usual projects and more fabric than most of my projects I feel like it needs to be something I will totally love.

So my challenge to you is to find the perfect fabric for me to use on this dress:
I have made it before in a cream satin and I love it. The shape is perfect for my body. So I am open to any prints or solids. Here is one that I love:

If it is a print I would like something simple and understated. I love the periwinkle with the pop of red piping for this clutch. (BTW: Anyone know the name of this fabric?)

The winner of this search will get a gift certificate for fabricworm.com. So please post your comment of your choice and good luck!

Scrap Fabric Giveaway!

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and are on your way to getting back to school. My kids aren't even in school yet (pre-school) and I still stocked up on school supplies this weekend.

I also began clearing out my craft room. Unfortunately with the baby coming soon I have to give up my craft room and move my sewing back into the family room just like the old days. I'll trade a baby for a craft room any day! As part of the cleaning out I am giving away a huge pile of scrap fabric. OVER 5lbs of scrap fabric. Some pieces are very large while others are skinny strips. Want to see what you could win?

All the fabric in these pictures is included as well as free shipping. I can't tell you exactly how much you will be getting other than it filled 2 plastic drawers in my closet that I just don't have room for. I am pretty consistant with keeping scraps but at some point I think I just need a fresh start.

So here is how you can win:

Enter via Raflecopter. A total of 5 entries/person.

Guest Post: Rochelle from The Lying Quill and a Giveaway

Guest Post: Rochelle Reynolds from The Lying Quill

Rochelle is an amazing stay at home mom following her dream. We all had dreams when we were younger. If you ask children what they want to be when they grown up the answer might be, "ballerina, astronaut, superhero." As we grow our dreams change, become more sensible. But Rochelle has kept her dream alive and is living it today.

Rochelle has provided a few tips and background to her journey of fulfilling her dream. I hope you enjoy it and are inspired to live your dreams as well. Take it away Rochelle.....

All of us have talents, something that we love, and frankly, just HAVE to do.  Crafting. Music. Weight-lifing. Knitting baby boots while watching Silence of the Lambs (you might need some counseling). Gardening. Tanning. Sewing. Writing. Why yes...I do believe that's me!

cover design: Jason Johnson
After six years of plotting a fantasy novel and two years of rewriting and revising, I submitted my 146k word 'baby' to a round of agents. Twenty or so. Someone had to bite, right?

I cut my novel down to 114k words, and then came round two, three, four...I mean, you'd think the odds of getting represented would be in my favor after 65 submissions. Everyone was offering words of wisdom and consolation. This author was rejected 15 times. So-and-such got 25 rejections. Kathryn Stockett had 60+...

After ten years of plotting three novels, one short story compilation and self-publishing two books, I decided it was time to share this knowledge, however little or great it might be, with those out there like me...who have a passion for something and refuse to give up!

Whether you are submitting a fiction or nonfiction book, the process is basically the same.
1. Find agents
2. Submit to said agents
cover compiled by: Jason Johnson
3. Read rejection letter(s)
4. Lock yourself in the hall closet then bawl hysterically
5. Submit some more
6. Feed children (oh yeah...I forgot about thems!)
6. Look longingly at agent-published books and daydream about being on Ellen, making a fantastic dancing entrance
7. Move on to other projects...

In honor of going public, there will be a book GIVEAWAY - y'know, a FREE book actually two books will be up for grabs. You must enter the giveaway by June 1st. Go to The Lying Quill for helpful websites, tips on finding agents, the process of submitting a book and finding optimism with each rejection letter - or what I refer to as a slap in the face.

Happy Crafting...and Writing!

To enter to win 1 of Rochelle's books:
1. become a follower of A Couple of Craft Addicts
2. become a follower of The Lying Quill
3. Leave a comment about something you like from The Lying Quill

Easy Iron On St. Patrick's Day shirt and a giveaway

I usually make my daughter a festive shirt for each holiday.  This year I was a little bored with all the traditional green shamrocks I had seen everywhere in stores.  I decided to make her a sassy St. Patrick's Day shirt incorporating her favorite color, blue.
The shirt was very easy and took less than half an hour to complete.

Supplies:
-Blank Shirt
-Scrap Fabric
-Iron On Letters
-Heat n' Bond
-Iron
Start by drawing or tracing a four leaf clover on the back of a small piece of Heat n' Bond.  Trim the edges and iron it onto the back side of your fabric.
Cut out your clover.
Peel the Heat n' Bond backing off the clover.
Position the clover onto your shirt and press with a hot iron for approximately 10 seconds.
Next add your iron on letters.  Use a sheet of paper or ruler as a guide.  Lay out your letters and press with a hot iron.
I added a few different sized clovers.
Your shirt is done!
Pair your shirt with a cute skirt and you have a fun St. Patrick's Day outfit.
The iron on letters came from Fashion Art Projects, a great line of DIY fashion designs for the Next Style brand of fashion crafting products.
Their website has some great ideas and tutorials for their fun products.  One of my favorite tutorials from their site is for the floral applique headband.  I will be making one soon!  You can also see video tutorials on their YouTube channel.  Their Pinterest boards have some great inspiration too.

Fashion Art Projects if offering a great giveaway to one of you.  The winner will receive a collection of Next Style Products including letter sheets, iron on appliques and rhinestones, a tote bag, and bandana.  There are so many fun things you could make with everything included!

There are a few different ways to enter.

Kids Craft Week - magnetic jewelry frame and a giveaway!

Welcome to our Kids Crafts Week!  We have so much fun lined up for you including guests, tutorials, product reviews, and our very first linky party!

My daughter has been spending a lot of time playing with my iPhone lately.  She spends hours changing earrings, necklaces, and headbands with a jewelry application on my phone.  Seeing how much she enjoys playing I was inspired to make a magnetic frame with a picture of my daughter and interchangeable jewels.
I started by taking a picture that would work as the base for the frame.
Then I gathered my supplies -  5" x 7" sheet of galvanized metal (found in the roofing aisle of your hardware store for less than $1), adhesive magnet roll, a "bucket of bling", 5" x 7" frame, and the cropped picture of your cute kid.
Remove the glass from your frame and insert the picture.  Then insert the metal directly behind the picture.

Measure and cut four strips of magnet to fit on the outer edges of your frame.
Make sure your partner is picking out pretty gems while you are working on the frame!
Remove the backing and apply the magnetic strips to each side of the frame.
The frame portion of the project is done.  Next you need to make the interchangeable jewelry pieces.  My daughter picked a great assortment of sparkly gems!
Cut pieces of magnet from the roll and stick them onto each piece of bling.
Now you're ready to have some fun!

My favorite part of this frame is the magnetic sides that hold all your jewels.
The bling came from a great line of kids crafts products available at Wal-Mart.  The product line has an awesome website full of fun ideas and tutorials.  The site has some great video tutorials too, definitely a place you should bookmark!

Kids Crafts is sponsoring our week and has offered to give one of our readers the Just My Style 10,000 Beads Kit.  I know I have quite a few ideas where this kit would come in handy!
