Quick Lamp Shade Makeover and Matching Laura Winslow Printable

I've slowly been piecing my craft room together since we moved into our new home last November.  Things are starting to match.  Furniture is slowly getting made over to look like it belongs in this room.  I'm adding pretty things to brighten up my space.  Tonight I finished two quick projects - a lamp shade makeover and an embellished frame to hold the cutest Laura Winslow printable.
"Remember to take time today to get off the internet and live life."

Let me tell you about the lamp first.  Prior to moving into our new home we were living in an apartment for a few months.  The arrangement happened because we found perfect renters to move into our other house (where we had previously been residing) before our new home was ready.  Everything was in storage and we didn't purchase any functional furniture for our new tight space.  The master bedroom didn't have a light fixture and we didn't bring any lamps so I ended up buying a small desk lamp.  The lamp was reasonably priced (<$10) and I ended up using it on the piano in our new home.  I had a brilliant idea to dress up the lamp shade with heart decals for Valentine's Day earlier this year.
Cute, right?  Cute until I took off the decals!
Yikes.  This lamp has been sitting in my craft room closet waiting for an upgraded shade.

I should have done this months ago because I'm really happy with my new lamp!  I used Mod Podge to cover the shade in burlap.  I folded the edges over the shade and secured the burlap with my glue gun.  To finish the shade, I used my glue gun to attach a few rosettes made from my scrap fabric and burlap.

Easy project!

Next I dressed up the free printable I saw on Laura Winslow's blog today.  Just a quick side note about Laura - I was able to chat with her for a few minutes at an Arizona Girls Night Out event recently.  I already adored her photography and blog but meeting her in person solidified my crush.  She is wonderful!

How perfect is this print?
I started with an old broken frame...
...and turned it into some fun wall art.  I spray painted the frame and then used more fabric and some embellishments to make it pretty.

I love how this turned out!

Hopefully I'll be ready to show you the entire room soon!

I'm linking this post here.

Heather, I love your project! Did you have to make a template for the lamp cover? I love the flowers. Maybe sometime you can teach me how to make them? I know they're supposed to be easy, but I'm not very good with written instructions. How cool is that quote? It's so true. Perfect to place by the computer. I know I spend too much time checking out other peoples creativity, instead of actually doing something! LOL. I think I will make that for my desk area. I think my hubby would appreciate it, if I took it to heart! LOL

What a great way to add a pop of color to your lamp shade in a fun and current way! I love it and have two dining room lamps that could benefit from this treatment. Thanks for the inspiration! I would love for you to link your post up at my Savvy HomeMade blog party on Monday at HomeSavvyAtoZ.com.

P.S. I am a new follower!
