Generations of Sewing

I'm BACK. After a week of moving and traveling I needed a week off and Heather took over with such wonderful Disneyland trip tips I am so thankful. I can't wait to take my kids to the Happiest Place on Earth next spring.

Anyways, I am back posting again from Seattle of all places. This next month my little ones and I are traveling around visiting all our favorite places: Seattle, Newport Beach, and Arizona. Okay maybe not my favorite places but it has my favorite people there. We are currently in WA visiting my mom who by the way got me started on my sewing adventures.

Her mother (my grandma) gave birth to 12 kids, bless her heart. Taking care of 12 kids with a husband in the Air Force meant a lot of sewing and mending. My mom told me she used to sew right at the dining room table, just like me (or where I used to sew until we moved but more on that later). From there my mother began sewing at the young age of 12 and continued to sew through the years including making her own prom dresses, barbie clothes, and matching Christmas and Easter dresses for my sister and I until we were 12. So when Elizabeth came into our lives my mom dusted off her old sewing machine and red tool box that she kept all the notions and thread in and she began creating again.

I thought as a tribute to her I would post her latest creation a purple flower ensemble that has a little Laura Ashley nod to it. I love the ric rac detail and the little white bows here and there. And of course I love the model in it. Thanks mom.

I'm linking up HERE

I love this. I too had a Mom who sewed for us and a grandmother who sewed for her. We have a whole box of fabric scraps that my grandmother would cut out of extra fabric from projects and old clothes. It is so amazing going through it with my mother and her telling me what the fabric was from- easter dresses, prom dresses, old shirts.
Me, my mom and my sisters plan on splitting it up and making quilts out of it.

Thanks for the heartfelt post.

I love that outfit and it brings back memories of when I sewed for my little girls! They are now 32 and almost 30! So no more sewing for them!

My mom sewed for us and my granny Ida lived with us and she was always quilting! So it was inevitable that I love sewing and quilting too! My older sister loves to knit and crochet and my baby sister..well... she loves to watch!

Just like the other girls posted, my mom sewed for all four of us girls too! My, how I wish I had paid better attention and learned more from her! Now I live so far away! Sweet tribute to your mom!
