Elizabeth Dress

I find inspiration everywhere lately. I think it is all the pinning, lol. These past two weeks of our sewing for yourself series has been wonderful but I am ready to get back to my bread and butter (kids clothing) and I have been a busy bee. I don't know what has motivated me lately. Maybe the cooler weather or the new fabric I bought or maybe my sweet little girl growing up too fast. I have to take advantage of my opportunities to sew for her before she thinks handmade clothing is unfashionable.

Anyways first on the list. I was inspired by Kate from See Kate Sew. She made this adorable top for herself. I love her style and her sewing skills are superb. I decided to made a dress for little Lizzy with a similar yolk neckline. I used ruffled fabric I got from Hobby Lobby and some basic cream cotton. I also used the ruffled fabric on the sleeves. I wanted to make it a little more edgy so I added a fashion zipper in black to the back. And I really pushed my sewing skills by lining the entire dress. I haven't really done that without a pattern before so it was a challenge. I like the lining for fall/winter dresses because it adds some weight to light cotton and warmth for the cold months ahead.

I love it! The only thing I would change is a longer zipper. I wish I had bought one that could go all the way down the back.
